Oman has reiterated its dedication to resolving international disputes through dialogue and peaceful negotiations, as outlined by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi during the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Al Busaidi emphasized the significance of dialogue in building trust and addressing global crises, while underscoring the need to respect national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law.
The minister highlighted Oman’s concern over regional conflicts impacting security, trade, and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation according to international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Al Busaidi called for restraint and urged all parties to resolve disputes through dialogue and political means, further expressing solidarity with Gulf countries to protect their security and sovereignty.
Addressing the crisis in Yemen, Oman renewed its support for a political solution that maintains Yemen’s unity and stability. Al Busaidi called on involved parties to work towards a settlement that upholds the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people and aids in the nation’s reconstruction and development.
Oman also condemned ongoing Israeli actions affecting Palestinians, reaffirming its support for Palestinian rights and the establishment of a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, in line with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. Additionally, Oman highlighted its efforts to promote tolerance and counter hate speech through the Muscat Plan, alongside broader cooperation with the United Nations.
The foreign minister concluded by emphasizing Oman’s commitment to sustainable development under Oman Vision 2040, which includes initiatives in renewable energy, sustainable transport, green industries, and efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
