Pakistan has confirmed the deployment of its military personnel to Saudi Arabia under a newly established joint defence agreement aimed at supporting the kingdom’s territorial defence. According to Sajjad Haider Khan, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, these forces are stationed in Riyadh for defensive purposes only, and the deployment is not intended to aid in cross-border operations against Yemen’s Houthi forces.
The agreement, known as the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, was signed on August 7, 2026, by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye. This pact commits the three countries to consider an armed attack against one member as an attack against all, thereby fostering enhanced regional security cooperation. Pakistan’s military has confirmed the involvement of its personnel in various operational roles in Saudi Arabia as part of this agreement.
The deployment underscores a strategic alliance among the signatories, with each nation pledging to bolster their collective security. This development marks a significant step in regional military collaboration, reflecting a shared commitment to safeguarding territorial integrity.
