Oman and Pakistan have taken significant steps to enhance bilateral cooperation by signing a visa exemption agreement and four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) focused on various sectors. The agreements were formalized during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, attended by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.
The visa exemption agreement, which facilitates easier travel for holders of diplomatic, special, service, and official passports, aims to streamline official interactions between the two countries. This move is expected to foster closer diplomatic relations and ease the process for officials traveling between Oman and Pakistan.
The MoUs, signed by Al Busaidi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, cover critical areas such as telecommunications, information technology, broadcasting, and information exchange. Specifically, these agreements target cooperation in telecommunications infrastructure, radio and television broadcasting, the exchange of news and information, and archival collaboration between Oman’s National Records and Archives Authority and Pakistan’s National Archives.
Both nations also signed the minutes of the eighth session of their Joint Ministerial Committee, underscoring their commitment to expanding bilateral relations. The agreements are designed to strengthen institutional ties, improve coordination between government agencies, and facilitate the exchange of technical expertise and information.
This development marks a progressive step in Oman-Pakistan relations, aiming to build partnerships in key sectors of mutual interest. The collaboration is expected to enhance the countries’ technological and informational infrastructure, fostering a more robust bilateral relationship.
