India successfully retained their Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal by defeating Pakistan in a thrilling final match at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. The Indian team claimed a 19-run victory to defend their title, showcasing a powerful batting display followed by strategic bowling.
Opting to bat first, India set a formidable target of 211/6, thanks to a dynamic start by Abhishek Sharma and a crucial late surge from Tilak Varma. Abhishek powered through to a rapid half-century, propelling India to a commanding 81/2 during the Powerplay, marking their highest Powerplay score against Pakistan in T20 Internationals.
Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed, managed to slow India’s momentum during the middle overs by taking key wickets. However, Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 51 off 22 balls, coupled with Shivam Dube’s contribution of 27, ensured India crossed the 200-run mark, setting Pakistan a challenging target of 212.
In response, Pakistan mounted a strong chase with Hasan Nawaz spearheading the effort. Nawaz delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 96 from 51 balls and forming a significant 87-run partnership with Saim Ayub, which put India under considerable pressure.
India’s bowlers, however, regained control in the latter stages of the match. Washington Sundar’s effective 18th over shifted the momentum, and Jasprit Bumrah maintained the pressure in the penultimate over. With Pakistan needing 33 runs from the final over, Shivam Dube successfully defended to seal India’s 19-run victory.
This triumph not only secured another Asian Games gold medal for the Indian men’s cricket team but also extended their dominance over Pakistan in T20 internationals. The win marked a significant achievement for India, reinforcing their prowess in the sport on the Asian stage.
