Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov has publicly rejected the premise of Donald Trump’s claim that India would stop buying Russian oil, stating that the supplies are “very beneficial for the Indian economy.”
Speaking in Delhi, Alipov addressed the controversy sparked by Trump, who alleged PM Modi “assured” him of a stop. Alipov stated, “India and the US are independent in their decisions, and we do not interfere.”
However, he strongly defended the trade, highlighting its economic value to “the welfare of the Indian people.” This aligns with India’s own MEA statement, which prioritized “consumer interests.”
Having defended the economic ties, Alipov then announced a major defense expansion. He detailed plans for co-producing the Su-57 fighter, drones, and anti-drone systems.
This dual-message strategy reinforces Russia’s role as a key economic and military partner, offering tangible benefits at a time when the US is imposing tariffs on India.
