In a major policy announcement made via social media, Donald Trump revealed he has “instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons.” The former president claimed this was a necessary response to secret testing by other nations.
“Because of other countries testing programs… I had no choice,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. The post was made minutes before a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea.
In a follow-up interview, Trump specified his targets, claiming “Russia’s testing, and China’s testing.” He dismissed the lack of public evidence, alleging the tests were “way underground.”
China’s foreign ministry flatly denied the accusation. A spokesperson stated that China is a “responsible nuclear-weapons state” and has honored its testing moratorium.
Trump also boasted of the U.S. arsenal, claiming it was the world’s largest and had been “completely updated and renovated” during his first term. The order comes after Russia tested a new nuclear-powered missile.
